Your popcorn-ceiling removal estimate is free and non-destructive. If you decide to move forward, a separate paid, project-specific asbestos inspection and accredited laboratory testing are mandatory before we schedule scraping, sanding, drilling, repair, or removal.
The licensed inspector addresses the suspect materials and homogeneous areas in the written scope. Depending on the work, that may include ceiling texture, joint compound, plaster, patching, adhesive, or another layer our project may contact.
We protect the home, remove eligible texture, repair the surface, and finish the ceiling smooth.
We coordinate properly licensed abatement personnel and a separate licensed air-monitoring company for required monitoring and clearance before restoration.

Is the popcorn-ceiling removal estimate free?+
Yes—the removal estimate is free. The required asbestos inspection, sample collection, and accredited-laboratory testing are not free. Before we touch any ceiling, we must have laboratory results showing whether asbestos is present in the materials our work may disturb.
Is testing required if I hire Bye-Bye Popcorn?+
Yes. We require project-specific inspection and laboratory testing before every popcorn-ceiling project we accept is scheduled for scraping, sanding, drilling, repair, or removal.
How much does testing cost?+
Limited testing for a popcorn-ceiling project generally starts around $240. Final cost depends on square footage, the number of materials or homogeneous areas, the required samples, and laboratory needs.
What happens if asbestos is found?+
We can coordinate the asbestos-positive ceiling project. Regulated removal is performed by a properly licensed asbestos-abatement team—not our regular painting crew—and a separate licensed air-monitoring company handles required monitoring and clearance before restoration resumes.
How long does popcorn ceiling removal take?+
Timing depends on square footage, ceiling condition, required inspection and laboratory turnaround, repairs, and whether the results call for standard removal or licensed abatement and clearance. We provide the project schedule after the scope and results are known.
Does the age of my home matter?+
Age can affect likelihood, but it cannot confirm what an unknown ceiling material contains. Our policy requires the suspect materials in the planned work scope to be inspected and documented regardless of construction year.
Will the process make a mess?+
Removal is naturally messy, so preparation matters. We use room protection and containment, then complete a detailed cleanup.
Can you paint the ceiling afterward?+
Yes. Our full-service process can include repairs, surface preparation, primer, and a smooth painted finish.
